This week I've been prompted to share what I'm studying in my devotion times. I'm reading a book by Lisa Whelchel, whom I loved as Blair on the Facts of Life, but love even more as a Christian author, pastor's wife, and homeschool mom. She takes a look at the book of Proverbs in The Busy Mom's Guide to Wisdom. This week's study is on "Independence", which I thought would not be a problem for me. I've always felt that "Fully Relying on God" comes easily.
Well, in her prayer guide, Lisa writes, "Father, I admit that I'm needy, especially when it comes to being a good mom." That has been eating at my heart all week. I've realized in homeschooling, my interactions with an over-tired one year old, and dealing with my ever-forgiving husband, that I've been trying to do it in my own strength. When I'm tired, I chose to react with my flesh, instead of letting it go, as I THOUGHT I did so easily. In her Wisdom for Living section, she writes, "[we need to] confess our vulnerability, admit our need, and depend on Him to take care of us and help us to be the moms we want to be." Otherwise, the result will be that of Proverbs 15:25. (look it up ;)
I don't get up in the morning and say, "Today, I think I'll be short with my children, and crabby with my husband", but it comes as a result of trying to do life all on my own. I really want to be the best mom I can be, as I'm sure you do. Will you decide with me to work at Fully Relying On God in this area of our lives, to be able to come out at the finish line with a "well done".

I may not be a mom, but I can work on my attitude and Fully Relying On God in my life. I'm willing to work towards that goal with you, cuz I see the benefit from it now that I am in a situation where I can't do it on my own.

Easier said than done! I was so in need of hearing that right now! I know God is trying to teach me some things through this time, but I'm too stubborn and independent to listen and change! I hate relying on others and it's difficult for me to rely on God! I will definately be praying with you that I can fully rely on God, especially during my time of recovery!
